This is the season of unnecessary things
Things like movie sequels that get bad reviews. A Paula Abdul reality show. Sandals that store liquids. A Robin Hood musical written by one of the Air Supply dudes. Asia's 25th anniversary reunion tour. A solo piano rendition of "Heat of the Moment," performed in the food court during lunch break a couple of weeks ago. (Yes, you heard that right. "Heat of the Moment" has been given the solo-piano treatment.) The live-action Underdog movie. The live-action He-Man and the Masters of the Universe movie. Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer trying to pretend that they're right about everything. An album of Yoko Ono remixes. Britney Spears lip-synching in clubs as the track skips. A Broadway musical version of Xanadu.
No, that last sentence is not a joke. There really is a Broadway musical version of Xanadu. You know, the 1980 film flop starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, and the music of ELO. It's in previews right now and will open in June.
All interested parties can buy tickets here.
(Okay, a true confession: I LOVE the title song. You can laugh at me now.)
